Melody
Singer, musician, guitarist and radio host Matt Taylor is from Long Island, New York and was born on August 13, 1995. As the grandson of the late, legendary radio broadcaster Jack Ellsworth, (who was friends with the likes of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey), Matt was raised watching his grandfather on the air, listening to the great artists from the “Golden Age of Popular Music.”
At the age of ten, Matt taught himself to play guitar. He also began singing and stepped into the spotlight when he was cast as the lead in his school musical. Matt was subsequently cast in other musical productions and in 2009, he began posting covers on YouTube. He was soon pursued by Simon Cowell and by several talent agents and asked to perform in various New York venues.
Matt directed his focus toward performances for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses in honor of his sister who is a childhood leukemia survivor. In the same year, Matt began co-hosting his grandfather’s popular radio program Memories in Melody, when he was only 14. Matt was invited to perform for Macy’s in New York City and has also performed at numerous events and concerts such as, American Cancer’s Society’s Relay for Life, Autism Speaks, Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night, Make-A-Wish and The Jones Beach NY Bandshell Summer Concert Series. Matt has also performed as a guest vocalist numerous times with the world famous Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Popular on social media and YouTube, Matt has become more in demand as a vocalist and guitarist. With an eclectic repertoire, he is highly sought after for private and public venues, covering the music of artists such as Ed Sheeran, James Taylor, The Beatles, and more; including artists who are featured on Memories in Melody.
One of Matt’s grandfather’s last requests, prior to his passing in 2013, was for Matt to carry on the show, “so the listeners could always hear this great music.” Matt immediately honored Jack’s last wish and became the full time host of the now nationally syndicated radio program “Memories in Melody,” carrying on the tradition to an ever-growing audience with a wide demographic. As a professional musician now himself, Matt is honored to fulfill his “Poppy’s” request to keep the “Greatest Music by the Greatest Artists” alive through the 75 year legacy of the unique, innovative and timeless show – Memories in Melody.
